How do I teach my preschooler all about me? ›

Worksheets reduce children's beliefs in themselves.

The wrong answer doesn't help children learn. They now know what is wrong, but they may not understand why it is wrong. Or they may not know what the correct answer is. They have no way of using trial and error to find the correct answer.

Worksheets aren't developmentally appropriate because these lesson aids typically focus on short-term success rather than long-term understanding. Worksheets are generally given to help drill down a concept, but what they can fail to do is help children understand the core meaning behind it.

Threes and fours have the ability to see themselves as separate and unique individuals. The self-images of young children tend to be descriptive, rather than judgmental. Increasingly independent, preschoolers are intrigued by the new things they can do.

Have your child stand about 2 feet away from you. Ask if that distance feels comfortable. Then ask your child to slowly walk toward you until it feels uncomfortable. Explain that this is how people feel when others stand too close — except their “personal bubble” is larger.
