St. John's College High School was a wonderful experience for me! They have a fantastic faulty and staff! Also, the JROTC program is top notch! It has one of the best academic programs in the country that prepares students for college!
The sports program is one of the best in the DMV! SJC athletes have won numerous awards and championships!

Overall, it’s been an good experience. The teachers are all great and teach very well. I am very happy to go to St. John’s and recommend it to most people. It has prepared me well for college.

It is a very nice highschool. I especially appreciated the 1:1 student to iPad ratios during Covid, which made virtual classes very easy.

Such a great community of teachers, students and staff. If I ever need help with Classwork, I know I can always talk to my teachers. Lots of fun sports and clubs. Feels like home.

I love the amount of activities and opportunities SJC offers, it truly allows students to thrive and enjoy their high school life. There’s representation for everyone here: in terms of ethnicity, identity, interests, background, etc. Teachers and staff and super helpful and always willing to aid a student in most whatever they need.
I wish that there were more class electives to choose from that don’t require a prerequisite to take.

I have participated in the choral program and it is very strong. The school has several opportunities for travel. There is a lot of school spirit and very strong athletics program. There are also many fun traditions unique to the school.

Loved the friends I made here. The atmosphere can be toxic depending on who you’re with, but otherwise the school is great.

St. John’s is a great place… if you’re a straight, white male that wants to get recruited for college sports. The teachers and leadership both show a lot of bias, and I see a lot of discrimination against Black and Hispanic classmates (they get in trouble for doing nothing, more detention, lower grades, worse college counseling and almost no POC in scholars program).

If you aren’t in the scholars program, the academics aren’t great until you take AP classes, and even then a lot of teachers are one year out of college and just don’t care. Ask them for their students’ performance on AP exams. It’s mostly 3s, which don’t look good on applications or get you college credit.

Overall, this school is good for male athletes. Girls sports teams are treated much worse and get no funding. Unless you want your kid to be a D1 athlete, send them somewhere with better teachers.

I liked that St. John's prepared me for high school and helped me gain confidence in myself. I did not like the so-claimed diversity as SJC claims to have. The white boys dominate the school and sometimes make the experience uncomfortable. I truly enjoyed all of my teachers and never felt like they were not trying to help me.

Average school, VERY traditional style of teaching, very religious, & overbearing pressure for academic and extra-circular (sports) success. It felt like teachers had little to no freedom to make the curriculum more interesting, engaging, or fun (especially English & History).
If you are planning to go to SJC after DCPS, it will be a drastic change in academics and culture for you. If you are coming from another religious and/or private school, this will likely feel more similar to you from both an academic and cultural perspective.
SJC is not for everyone, if you fit the "type" of student for the school you will do good and if you aren't that type of student, you may struggle. This type of school needs you to adapt to their approach to teaching and school culture, but it doesn't work for everyone. Think of it as a "one size fits all" piece of clothing, that is actually "one size fits a specific group of people".

I’ve significantly enjoyed the diverse and kind community of scholars, athletes, and artists, and the religious education focuses a lot on open minded virtuous living. Even then, the school still emphasizes everyone’s personal growth with respect to their own beliefs and encourages students to read and believe in biblical teachings. I just wish we had more events and dances, but the staff and faculty are amazingly great communicators fully able to help their students.

I am a senior at St. John’s and I have been there all four years. I can say that my experience has had its good and bad times. A majority of the student body is white and there is barely any diversity or any representation in the school. The administration doesn’t do a great job of regulating and making sure that certain people get the proper punishments for their actions. The sports teams get a majority of the funding and money, however it’s only about four or five teams that get that, the rest struggle to raise their own money. And the teachers, while some are great, tend to be more focused on giving the students loads of work without wanting to help them succeed. However, St. John’s also has its good moments. It has fun activities for the students and nice counselors that will help you through your four years.

St. John's has a fit for everyone. It's academically challenging and offers many competitive Sports, Music, Drama, Arts, Robotics, Computer Science, Entrepreneurial Center and more. SJC is also a very racially and economically diverse school. They also offer the Cadet Corp.

During my 8 years at St Johns, I did not see the presence of Catholicism, which was the primary reason I sent my children there. I did not see Catholicism in the way my children were treated nor how they were educated. I did not see the presence of Catholicism in the conduct of the faculty, nor in the administrators.
