[Top 15] Escape From Tarkov Best Settings That Give You An Advantage (2024)

If you are ready to enter the world of Tarkov, then you need to know how to have the best performance in the game. Tarkov has a lot of beautiful features and large maps that take some time to navigate. This game also takes a lot of power to run on even the basic PC. Follow these simple settings and you will find that you can also play the game with the least amount of issues.

15. HUD Visibility

{Escape From Tarkov HUD}

As a brand new Tarkov player, the very first setting you should change for your in-game play is the HUD settings. The default setting in the game is to have it pop up when you get hit or switch a weapon. This can keep you from being able to see your health and weapons at all times which is crucial to staying alive in the game.

Open the settings and go to Game tab

  • Quick slots - Change to “Always on”
  • Stamina and Stance -Change to “Always on”
  • Health Condition - Change to “Always on”

14. Double click item quick use

The item quick use setting is new as of update 13.5. This allows you to change the click option on consumable items so that you don't accidentally eat or drink items in the game that you have saved for trading. This can be a lifesaver if you have been hunting down an item for hours and you don't want to lose it.

Open settings and go to the Game tab

  • Use the dropdown for Double click item use and change it to “In raid and stash”

You will thank me later…

13. Auto RAM Cleaner

If you have less than 16GB of RAM then this setting should be on. This will help purge unnecessary game assets from your RAM to keep you from having slow loading times in the maps.

Open settings and go to the Game tab

  • Check the box next to “Automatic RAM Cleaner”
  • Quit and reopen the game to refresh the settings

12. FOV (Field of View)

{Escape From Tarkov FOV Level 75}

This is a setting where you will need to test periodically to see what works best for you. However, Setting the FOV higher has its advantages. To be blunt, you can see way more of the map and the objects around you.

Open settings and go to the Game tab while in-game (Hopefully hidden from view)

  • Slide the arrow on the FOV setting up about 10 points
  • Save settings and go back to the game

Keep doing this until you find the magic number that allows you to see more of the map (This setting can vary depending on what monitor you have)

11. Shadow Quality

[Top 15] Escape From Tarkov Best Settings That Give You An Advantage (5)

If you find yourself having issues with choppy gameplay, Try turning down the shadow quality in the graphics setting. This can improve your FPS and keep you from missing anything.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Click the dropdown box next to shadow Quality
  • Change the quality by picking the next one down from where you started (Low, Medium, High)
  • I recommend doing this one at a time until gameplay improves

10. Antialiasing

{Anti Aliasing Example from NVIDIA}

This setting determines how smooth objects are in the game. Unless you absolutely need the scenery to be perfect, I would just turn it off.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Use the dropdown next to Antialiasing and select “Off”
  • Next best if you want it on low, set it to “FXAA”

9.VSync

VSync is a graphics setting that synchronizes the frame rate of a game with your monitor's refresh rate. Turning this on with high quality computer equipment can help with your gameplay however most of the time it causes lagging in the reaction time when you click a button and see it on screen. Just turn it off.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Uncheck the box next to Vsync

8.Texture Quality

[Top 15] Escape From Tarkov Best Settings That Give You An Advantage (7)

The Higher the texture quality of the objects in the game, the slower it's going to load. While everything may look nice, it could be the difference between who gets off the first shot. Keep it low and you're good to go.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Click the dropdown box next to Texture Quality
  • Drop it down to low

7. Object LOD Quality

Object LOD Quality improves rendering by decreasing the strain that the game's graphics put on the GPU. This setting affects how much rendering your GPU has to do. Lowering this to its lowest setting will be your best choice for performance.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Slide the arrow on the Object LOD Quality setting down to 2

6. Resampling

Resampling is the decrease or increase in the number of pixels in a digital image. If you turn it up the images in the game will look sharper but the performance will cause your computer to bog down. Turning it down will increase performance and the objects in the game will be a little less smooth.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Use the dropdown next to Resampling and select “1x Off”
  • I really don't recommend turning this up as it uses alot of computer resources to run if you don't have a high end computer to run it

5. NVIDIA DLSS

NVIDIA DLSS can boost the visuals in the game immensely if you have NVIDIA hardware in your pc, However if paired with the correct hardware it can boost the visuals. If you don't have a high end pc I would just turn it off.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Use the dropdown next to NVIDIA DLSS and select “Off”

4. HBAO

[Top 15] Escape From Tarkov Best Settings That Give You An Advantage (8)

HBAO makes the game look much more realistic by simulating real lighting. This uses a lot of resources and might kill your framerate. Turning this all the way up increases your GPU load which may cause overheating problems.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Use the dropdown next to HBAO and select “Off”
  • Next best if you want it on low, set it to “Low” and see how it works

3. SSR

[Top 15] Escape From Tarkov Best Settings That Give You An Advantage (9)

SSR is a post-processing technique that calculates reflections. The setting adds subtle reflections on wet surfaces and objects like puddles of water and reflective surfaces. This setting makes a difference, especially during in-game rainy weather, but is much more demanding than regular lighting.Usually Causing issues in FPS.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Use the dropdown next to HBAO and select “Off”
  • Next best if you want it on low, set it to “Low” and see how it works

2. Grass shadows

This one is rather self explanatory. For added depth in the game you can have the grass with shadows to make it feel more realistic. I prefer to boost performance and get more kills. Turn it off.

Open settings and go to the Graphics tab

  • Uncheck the box at the bottom labeled Grass Shadows

1. A good Headset

[Top 15] Escape From Tarkov Best Settings That Give You An Advantage (10)

I cannot play Tarkov unless I'm wearing a headset. I found that even with the best sound card, my speakers are no match for a good headset. Having the ability to hear every sound in the game at all times has been the true key to success for survival.

Personally I own a Razer headset I bought on sale on Amazon. I recommend checking your sound card stats and see what matches best with your own hardware and maybe a good software to help boost the sounds of the footsteps or any other sounds in the game.
